Four legs and a heart

What is this? Look at all these people! Who are they? What are they doing? I have to go see. I must find out what this all about. This is the best, I can't tell you how great it is to see this group. Their walking so close together, they must be out for fun. I'll just get right up to them. This is the greatest! Look, some of them are chained together, are they taking themselves for a walk? The one in the middle he's for me. I yap and jump up to the group. Can't you see that I yearn for the company? I reach up and almost kiss the middle man's face. Oh this is fun. Now the play begins, throwing the small stones from the ground what an interesting game. It ends far to quickly for my tastes though.

What! They have my collar, I strain but I know it is no use. I'm caught. One man wraps a cloth around my collar and I whimper as we walk along.

We walk towards the brick box in the middle of the yard. What could that be? The chained men move on, I'm being held back. The middle chain man moves up to the top of the box. He begins to sing. A fast strange simple song, over and over again. I can't help but join him. This is strange that they would come out here to hear this man sing.

Then BAM! The chain man is gone! There is nothing but silence in the yard. The man holding me, he opens his grip, he let's me go. My head turns back ever so slightly to see him just staring towards the box. I'm not thinking I'm just rushing like the freedom I feel. I turn to the back of the box and I stop.

HE'S DEAD!

The shock comes out of my throat. I lower my head and turn my gaze to the men. Did they kill him? The crazy fools, couldn't they see he was alive? My mind is swirling with the death, I can't control my feelings of shame. I back away from the box looking at the lifeless face that just a moment ago I yearn to kiss. A whimper may have escaped from my mouth but it didn't matter. These men were crazy, human crazy.
